Costume
The costume of the married men and women
The costume of the married men consists of an
big, black hat with a big brim, a blue tail coat, a red vest, black knee
breeches, white socks and black shoes.
The costume of the girls and women consists of a bodice made of velvet with silver and golden embroidery
(these bodices are made by hand and a woman needs about 300 working hours to finish
one). They also wear a black skirt, a so-called “Bänderkappe” , a headgear with two long black ribbons and an apron with flowers on it.
The "Brautschäppel"
The “Brautschäppel” , the bride ´s crown is a special work of a art with little glass
balls, perls, chaines and little mirrors. The bigger the “Schäppel” was, the bigger was the prosperity of the farm the brides came
from. It weighs about 8 pounds.
The Schäppel is the most particular part of our costume.
The costume of the young men
The costume of the young and unmarried men consists of a cap made of fox ´s
skin, a black jacket, a red vest, black knee breeches, white socks and black
shoes.
Children's group
The children ´s costume is simpler than the costume of the adults, but very
similar.
The costume we wear now is the one which was worn on special day in Bräunlingen and in our region around the turn of the
century.
